Meet Kristen Spezialetti '18, coordinator of community services at Ohio Valley Hospital.
How did a degree from La Roche help you advance your career?
La Roche’s Professional Writing and Journalism program gave me the opportunity to improve not only my writing skills, but also my publication design, verbal communication and reading comprehension skills. I was encouraged to be inquisitive and receptive, which has led me to be more empathetic and resourceful in my career.
What does your job entail?
Along with managing the volunteer program, I arrange monthly educational seminars for local seniors, participate in the planning of fundraisers and promote Heritage Valley Health System at community events.
Why did you choose La Roche?
I chose La Roche because I knew the La Roche community would allow me to learn and flourish during my college career. I loved the idea of small classes and a personalized approach to my education.
What impact did La Roche have on you as a person?
At La Roche I was exposed to a diverse community for the first time, and I am thankful I had the opportunity to learn alongside people from all over the world. As a peer consultant at the Writers' Center, I was able to further develop my interpersonal communication skills and gain a more inclusive view of the world.
Please describe an experience with a faculty or staff member who made a strong, positive impact on you.
While I have had so many lasting, meaningful relationships at La Roche, Dr. Janine Bayer, Sister Rita Yeasted and Dr. Christine Abbott especially inspired me, each in their own unique way, to be curious, confident and compassionate. They continue to inspire me in my career, and I am so thankful for their unwavering support.
