“My time at La Roche was so valuable in my foundation for psychology, and so lucrative in my passion for helping others." - Robin Witt '05

As a licensed professional counselor, alumna Robin Witt '05 helps new mothers battle feelings of isolation, exhaustion and anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As director of relationship dynamics for the The Better Institute in Warrendale, Pennsylvania, she heads Better Moms Unite, a virtual peer support group for mothers with children ranging from newborns to early elementary age.

“Reaching these women has been a privilege because they have a voice now,” she said. “They know they’re not alone. Women in a group setting realize it’s not just them who are experiencing these things. It normalizes what they’re feeling, which makes them more comfortable to open up.”

Group sessions focus on a variety of topics including self-care; the joys of motherhood; building a tribe; intimacy after childbirth; post-partum depression; and post-partum anxiety.

Each session includes a psychoeducation component in which Ms. Witt educates women about the symptoms of perinatal mood disorders, followed by an open forum.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology at La Roche, Ms.Witt obtained a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Chatham University in 2007.

Her experiences at La Roche, she said, guided her career and fueled her desire to further her education.

“My time at La Roche was so valuable in my foundation for psychology, and so lucrative in my passion for helping others,” she explained.
