La Roche Scholarships

Scholarships for Resident & Commuter First-Time Freshman, Transfer & Adult Students

Have you distinguished yourself in your studies? Perhaps you are a deserving student who fits certain special circumstances. You may be eligible for one of La Roche University's competitive merit-based scholarships for new full-time students. These scholarships are listed below and are renewable. Eligibility criteria and renewal guidelines differ for each type of award. If you are eligible for more than one La Roche University scholarship, you will receive the higher award. This includes tuition waivers.

Full-time Freshman Students 

All new full-time students are automatically reviewed by the Admissions Office for merit-based scholarships. Annually La Roche University awards over $10 million in merit-based scholarships based upon the student's grade point average, SAT and/or ACT scores, and housing status at their time of acceptance. Other Scholarships/Awards available to First-Time Freshman Resident & Commuter Students:

  • Alumni Honorarium Award for the son, daughter, stepchild, niece, nephew or grandchild of a La Roche alumnus: $1,000
  • Catholic High School Scholarship for graduating from a Catholic high school: $2,500
  • Dance Merit Award based upon dance audition: $13,000
  • Pittsburgh Promise Perferred Partner Award for graduating from a Promise-eligible high school: $2,500
  • Sibling Award – Must have a sibling or step-sibling currently attending La Roche: $1,000

Adult and Transfer Students

All new full-time adult and transfer students are automatically reviewed by the Office of Graduate Studies and Adult Education for merit-based scholarships. Annually La Roche University awards over $10 million in merit-based scholarships based upon the student's grade point average and housing status at their time of acceptance. These scholarships are for full-time transfer students. They do not require a separate application and are awarded at the time of admission

Other Scholarships/Awards available to Transfer Resident & Commuter Students:

  • Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: $1,500   

Alumni Referral Award 

The Alumni Referral Award creates an opportunity for University alumni to provide a financial reward to prospective college students that apply to La Roche. Upon acceptance to the University, a $1,000 award will be included in their financial aid package to help make their La Roche education more affordable.

Awards will be renewable each year, up to four years, provided the student remains continuously enrolled at the University. Eligible students will only be granted one Alumni Referral Award.

Please note that nominations are only accepted for students who have not previously applied to La Roche per our eligibility requirements.

If you are not sure if the student has already applied, please contact Hope Schiffgens, executive director for enrollment at for verification prior to submitting your nomination.

Referrals may be made for first-time, undergraduate freshmen in high school; or a transfer student, either domestic or international.

The referred student must:

  • Maintain full-time enrollment status
  • Remain in a degree-seeking program
  • Abide by the regulations governing college life
  • Make Satisfactory Academic Progress in order to renew their scholarship for each year they are a student at La Roche

La Roche employees in Enrollment and Athletics departments, who also are graduates of the University, are not eligible to submit a referral.
