HVAC Technician

La Roche University is currently accepting applications for the position of HVAC Technician, a member of the Facilities Management Department.   This position will perform tasks associated with the operations, maintenance, and repair of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related control systems utilized by the University. In addition, general knowledge of plumbing and associated equipment is preferred. 

The HVAC Technician is considered a full time position with corresponding full time benefits. The pay range starts at $16.00/hour.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and perform preventive maintenance on controls and related equipment; adjust and calibrate when necessary.
  • Respond to complaints regarding HVAC equipment and adjust or repair, including emergency call-in situations.
  • Perform repairs on pumps, compressors and related equipment; perform minor electrical and pipe fitting repairs to HVAC systems.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs on commercial equipment.
  • Installation of HVAC equipment as appropriate.
  • Report all complications on specific job situations or equipment to departmental supervisor(s) and/or their designee.
  • Complete minor plumbing duties.
  • Perform various routine maintenance assignments and assist the Facilities Management personnel in the repair and maintenance of structures, equipment and fixtures of the facility and grounds.
  • Coordinate with other departmental employees on diversified work projects; perform tasks related to other areas such as office moves/relocations, snow removal, grounds maintenance, event set-ups and custodial maintenance.


  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate Degree/trade schooling in related field or equivalent will be considered
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification 
  • EPA 410-A Technician Certification
  • Ability to work in noisy, hot and cold climates and all types of outside weather conditions; hearing protection equipment required at times
  • Maintain valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds; able to stand, walk, stoop in all weather conditions for extended periods of time
  • Mechanical aptitude, ability to use applicable power tools and read blueprints preferred
  • Knowledge of personal computers/associated office equipment and Microsoft office systems
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to foster a cooperative work environment
