Normandy - The Turning Point

 The role of Normandy as a “turning point” in world history is very significant. Students will explore Normandy’s special place in history from the time of Rollo, the Viking leader in the 10th century C.E. and his descendant William the Conqueror in the 11th century, to the critical role in the Allied Invasion of Europe in 1944.

The lecture will focus on the methods and means of those historical personalities who have utilized the pivotal geographic location of Normandy in northwestern France as a military staging ground for changing the course of both the culture and history of the world.

Instructor
Mark Macedonia is a retired social studies teacher who taught for 32 years within the Seneca Valley School District. He taught AP World History and United States History to High School Students.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in communication from St. Bonaventure University, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh. In the past five years, Mark has authored three books of historical fiction: "The Soles of Cyrus Eblis," "Beneath a Crescent Moon," and most recently, "Beware the Shifting Sands."
