La Roche University to Host Planetarium Centennial Events

PITTSBURGH, April 24, 2025 – The Introcaso Center for Lifelong Learning invites the public to celebrate 100 years of stargazing and discovery at 100 Years Under the Stars, a two-day planetarium centennial event, at La Roche University’s campus in the North Hills.

May 5 – Planetarium Centennial Lecture | 6–9 p.m.
Ryan Room, Zappala Campus Center

Join La Roche for an inspiring evening to honor 100 years of planetarium innovation and explore the future of our night skies. The evening will begin with opening remarks from Susan Button, former president of the International Planetarium Society, followed by a compelling keynote presentation, “Dark Skies for Astronomy and Birds,” by Diane Turnshek, lecturer at Carnegie Mellon University and adjunct faculty at the University of Pittsburgh. This thought-provoking talk will highlight the vital connection between light pollution, astronomy and avian life.

This engaging event is free and open to all members of the community.

May 6 – Family Night | 6–8 p.m.
Ryan Room and Zappala Campus Center Square

Bring the whole family for an evening of hands-on discovery and excitement. Family Night will feature:

  • Mobile planetarium shows at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
  • STEM activity stations with fun and educational experiments for all ages.
  • Opportunities to explore the science of space, robotics and more.
