La Roche College Recognized by Society for Human Resource Management

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 9, 2015 – The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently acknowledged that La Roche University’s Master of Science in Human Resources Management Program has renewed its alignment with SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates.

Currently there are only 371 programs around the world that have been acknowledged by SHRM as meeting the alignment requirements, which specify the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The guidelines, created in 2006 and revalidated in 2010 and 2013, are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.

To date La Roche’s graduate program is the only master’s-level HRM program in Western Pennsylvania to meet SHRM’s curricular requirements. Currently in its 35th year of operation, the program has graduated close to 1,000 HR professionals. Since its inception, the program has been committed to offering high quality, professional HR education that stands apart from the traditional business curriculum. The 36-credit program includes four concentration areas, eight certificate options and classes taught by faculty with experience in the fields of human resources, law and other HR specialties. Recently Professors Jean Forti, Ph.D., and Astrid Kersten, Ph.D., both received their Senior Certified Professional certifications.

“Achieving this recognition from SHRM demonstrates our commitment to offering a quality professional graduate education to our students” Dr. Forti said. “The HRM program at La Roche has a well-deserved reputation of being the most comprehensive HRM programs in the region. Our students are thoroughly trained in all the key areas of strategic human resource management. This sets us apart from many other programs in the area. We are pleased that SHRM has formally acknowledged this.”

Founded in 1948, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest HR membership organization devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 275,000 members in over 160 countries, the Society is the leading provider of resources to serve the needs of HR professionals and advance the professional practice of human resource management. SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the United States and subsidiary offices in China, India and United Arab Emirates.
