PITTSBURGH, March 5, 2015 – Miguel Ntutumu Evuna Andeme, a 2003 graduate of La Roche University, has been named Equatorial Guinea’s ambassador to the United States.

On Feb. 23, 2015, he presented his credentials to President Barack Obama at the White House in a traditional ceremony that marks the formal beginning of an ambassador’s service in Washington.

“We at La Roche University are so proud of Ambassador Miguel Ntutumu Evuna Andeme and all that he has achieved since earning his bachelor’s degree in international studies here in 2003,” said La Roche University President Sister Candace Introcaso, CDP, Ph.D. “Even as a student, his leadership and interpersonal skills were apparent, and our community is humbled knowing that we were the first to welcome the ambassador to the United States as a student in our Pacem in Terris program.” The Pacem in Terris Institute, established in 1993, brings students from war-torn and developing nations to study at La Roche University.

“I credit La Roche University with helping to open my mind and giving me the tools to better understand other cultures while not negating my own culture,” said Ambassador Evuna Andeme, who cofounded the International Forum of African Students at the college as a way to bring awareness to African issues on campus. “La Roche provided me with the education I needed to return to my homeland to make things better—my experience there is key to the successes that I am having now.”

Before being named to his current position, Ambassador Evuna Andeme was the general director of cabinet at the Department of Missions in the Presidency of the Republic in Malabo, where his responsibilities included preparing statements, speeches and correspondence for the president. He also served as director general for administrative affairs for the presidency and as a procurement and contracts advisor for Hess Corporation in Equatorial Guinea.

Ambassador Evuna Andeme was joined at the White House ceremony by his wife, Purificacion, a 2004 graduate of La Roche University, and his five children, Alejandro, Alma de Miguel, Julia, Cirilo and Maria Jesus.
